Read Around & Book Fair Almost Here

2016 Seward Read Around

Dear Seward Montessori Parents and Guardians,

The 2016 Seward Montessori Read Around is almost here! The Read Around is a PTA sponsored, school-wide, read-a-thon focused on promoting reading among all students AND raising money for our school and programs.

The 2016 Read Around will run for FOUR WEEKS (Monday, February 1 – Sunday, February 28).

During this time Seward students are encouraged to read at home every day, recording this time on their Reading Log. Minimum reading amounts per day by grade level are: K=10 minutes, E1= 15 minutes, E2=20 minutes, Middle School = 30 minutes.

  • All Reading Records will be handed out during the last week of January.
  • Reading Record Due Date: Monday, Feb. 29th
  • Pledge Form and Donation Due Date: Monday, Mar. 7th

The Read Around is also an important fundraiser for Seward. Students are encouraged to ask friends and family to pledge money for the reading that they complete. Students receive prizes based on the amount of money they raise:

TIER 1 | Any student who participates by turning in a reading record and meeting the minimum required minutes receives a certificate of achievement and is eligible for reading achievement awards, such as Top Readers’ Tea with Tammy and the 1,500+ Club.

TIER 2 | Any student who meets the TIER 1 requirements and turns in the pledge card and donations of $25-$49 receives TIER 1 prizes, as well as a 2016 Read Around Custom Bookmark, and one entry into a raffle of prizes that includes TWO KINDLE FIRE TABLETS, gift certificates, shark hats, Custom Seward reading throw blankets and pillows, and more.

TIER 3 | Any student who meets the TIER 1 and 2 requirements and turns in the pledge card and donations of $50 or more receives TIER 1 and 2 prizes, as well as a Seward Read Around 2016 t-shirt and an ADDITIONAL entry in the prize raffle.

ALL STUDENTS will earn a photo op on the RED CARPET, complete with movie scenes for different grade levels: all based on favorite books! (This replaces Camp Read Away, which is not possible due to the school construction work.)
