News and Notes from Principal Goetz

Dear Seward Families:

Over 90% of you attended conferences last month! We are grateful to you for taking time to partner with us in your child’s/children’s education. Research shows when parents and teachers have common understandings and expectations of the learning to take place there is a positive impact on student achievement and attendance. If you were not able to make it or ran out of time, it is not too late to contact the teacher/teachers and arrange time to meet. The Seward staff is committed to building trusting relationships with you as well as seeing you take pride in your student’s accomplishments.

Parent Drop Off has been adjusted to better meet our needs. Parents can drive through the lot to drop off/pick up their child(ren). We ask that you drop off or pick up ONLY: NO PARKING at any time. With it being dark in the morning please be extra careful and patient! Thank you!

It is time to take out the coats, boots, hats, and mittens! All Seward students get 30 minutes of recess every day—please make sure your student leaves the house with cold-weather gear.

Have you heard we have SHARK Ambassadors at Seward? We have trained over 50 2nd through 8th grade leaders to welcome new Seward students! Our Ambassadors give school tours, answer questions, sit with the newcomer at breakfast and lunch, and help ease some of the “new kid in class” anxiety.

A recent email from a Seward teacher—“I observed three middle schoolers in the E2 Commons and I thought, ‘Hmmmm, what are those middle schoolers doing down here?’ When I got closer I realized it was two Ambassadors and a new student. They were giving him a tour and stopped to point out the SHARK poster. As I walked by one of the Ambassadors said, “She is an E2 teacher,” so I stopped, introduced myself, and welcomed the new student to Seward. It was a beautiful moment!” Proud to be a Seward SHARK!

It is a privilege for me to work in this learning community!
