News and Notes from Principal Goetz

Dear Seward Families:

Please remember that Seward’s student hours are 7:30 a.m.–1:55 p.m. One of the most important things you can do for your student is make sure he or she gets to school on time, every day. I can’t tell you how many parents have told me, “The first few minutes of the day don’t really matter.” In fact, the first four to five minutes of the day set the tone for the entire day. Children value routine, time to connect with classmates, and easing into the day. When students arrive late for class they often feel anxious about starting the day “behind” their peers. Please do everything you can to get your child to school on time.

I am asking for your help, patience, and kindness during student drop off and pick up on 22nd Avenue. Please do not double-park or block traffic when you arrive at our school. It is safest to drop students off/pick students up on the south side of 22nd Street, or at a stop sign so they can use a crosswalk to cross the street. We are seeing too many students trying to cross traffic in the middle of 22nd street. It’s everyone’s responsibility to make coming and leaving school safe for all Seward students.

Construction Update: We are now talking about the last phase of the construction project—our new kitchen, lunchroom, media, and office spaces. I toured the space last Friday and was impressed by all the windows and the large spaces. Our new kitchen is going to be fantastic! I never thought the phrase “vegetable prep sink” would be music to my ears! It’s great to be talking about our salad bar…and look: here is a picture of the dishwasher window where our students will return their lunch trays. My gratitude goes out to Seward’s staff for being flexible, patient, and supportive of each other throughout this exciting time of transition into our new spaces!

Thank you!
