Dear Seward Families:

Our annual book sale and Read Around was a huge success. Many thanks to the Seward PTA and staff for organizing a great, literacy-focused event for our K-8th grade students and their families. It’s fun to see children (and their parents) leaving our school with piles of books and big smiles on their faces. Thanks to Christine Brand, the kids and I have celebrated the incredible number of minutes they read at “Tea with Tammy” and “Poetry with the Principal.” I encourage every Seward family to continue the spirit of the Read Around and read every day. Spring break is a perfect time to read—whether you are staying home or traveling, a good book will help pass the time!

As I type this, the Seward 6th graders are at Camp Widji. I appreciate the effort and sacrifices that teachers, parents, Mary Delander and our PTA make to provide this amazing opportunity. Students benefit from the outdoor learning environment as well as team building activities. The planning a and paperwork that goes into organizing the camping trip stops short of a Master’s thesis. We have parents who take days off from work to chaperone and teachers who leave their families and other responsibilities to spend four days and three nights with about 90 6th graders! The Widji trip is another example of how the Seward Montessori learning community lives its values.
