News and Notes from Principal Goetz

February 27, 2015

Dear Seward Families:

The renovation and construction project is in full swing! It’s fun to see and hear our students comment on the progress. The noise has not been fun. I am working with the construction superintendent to insure that the noise will not disrupt testing in March and April. Students have also been interested in looking at the plans and have asked if an architect or one of the construction workers can come and talk to their class.

Students in 3rd–8th grades will be taking reading and math MCA’s (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments) and 5th and 8th graders will also take the science MCA beginning in March. We are in the process of creating those schedules and will post them on our website when they are completed. In addition, you can expect to get the dates and times your child is testing in the classroom newsletter.

Our learning community has been very busy! We had a terrific book sale and literacy night. Our E-2 students gave a concert and presented their ancient civilization culture projects. Students have been on field trips to the Art Institute and The Ordway to hear the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Three of our middle school students have artwork hanging at the Davis Center. Rope Power has started and History Day took place on February 24th. These opportunities don’t happen without caring, dedicated and generous parents and staff. I am truly grateful to all of you for the extra time and energy you spend making Seward a great place to teach and learn.
