National Bully Prevention Month

Dear Seward Families,

I am very excited and grateful to have joined the Seward Montessori community this year. It has been wonderful getting to know the students at Seward, and to have met some of the great families supporting these outstanding students. I have been in many of our classrooms speaking to students about the importance of bully prevention, and have been amazed by how knowledgeable our students are about ways of helping to end bullying.

October is National Bully Prevention month. Each morning in October we are beginning our school day with a message regarding ways in which we can prevent bullying and create a safe and caring school environment. Our teachers are also utilizing the Second Step curriculum in their classrooms for lessons in social skills and bully prevention. On Wednesday, October 10th the school community sent a message of support to students who have been bullied by wearing our school color of green for Unity Day. In addition, students will work to break down social barriers by participating in Mix It Up at Lunch day on October 30th. You can visit for more information.

In addition to the work being done to address bullying, I am here to support students’ success in as many was as possible. This includes proving social skills instruction, supporting students’ emotional and mental health needs, facilitating groups, supporting students who are experiencing major life changes, helping students navigate sometimes difficult friendship situations, working to identify and support students with special needs, helping families find resources, being a voice and advocating for students and families, and supporting our teachers and school staff members in any way that I can. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to having many more opportunities to meet and get to know you and your students.

Thank you,

Dena Stauffenecker,
