The Scene in Room 116

Hello Families,

Summer is slowly coming to a halt!  August is upon us and my children and I have only been to the pool 3x.  My fear is that Mother Nature is saving all of those 90 degree days for September)o:

To my new classroom friends and name is Melissa Ericksen and I am the mentor/teacher in Room 116.  I have been teaching at Seward for 20 years and each new school year brings a sense of joy and excitement for me!

In Room 116 we enjoy a variety of experiences from independent exploration to structured small and large group

activities.  The students and I will learn together as we manipulate the Montessori math, language, and culture materials.  Every day will be a learning and growing experience!

The students and I will spend September building our classroom community and citizenship.  I believe that each child is responsible for their own personal and social behavior.  Being respectful to their fellow students, themselves, and the classroom materials will be modeled and expected from all the members of Room 116.

My goal is to make the 2009-2010 school year a successful and enjoyable experience for all of my students.

In order to make this goal a reality, I am asking families for their support and guidance.  When the lines of communication between home and school are open and free,  the student will benefit the most.  I look forward to formally meeting with all of you 3 times throughout the year.  If an individual student concern arises, after-school conferences can be set up as needed.

I hope you are enjoying the last, lazy days of summer and are getting geared up for a fun and exciting school year!

See you soon,   Melissa
