How to Talk to Your Kids about Recent Events

Dear Seward Families and Caregivers,

We have been navigating the completely unexpected challenges of Distance Learning during a global pandemic. And much of the burden of additional responsibilities, academic oversight, juggling schedules while you work or while you navigate an unexpected gap in work.   I expect that we have all been experiencing feelings of frustration, isolation / loneliness, and maybe even sadness, from time to time. Some days are just plain hard.

As adults, we wrestle with the painful reality of losing another African American man, George Floyd, at the hands of police; it is even more difficult to find the words to explain this to students.  For that reason, we are providing some guidance for you on how to help support your students as they maneuver through the myriad feelings they have right now.

The district nutrition center is providing five days of breakfast and lunches for families – I heard it tastes good!  You can pick up boxes of food at the following locations:

   Friday, May 28th  - Anne Sullivan School between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

   Monday, June 1 – Hiawatha or Andersen Schools between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

   Tuesday, June 2 – Seward Montessori between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.  We will get through this together.
