Deb Freeman Differentiation Specialist
Deb Freeman

Hello! My name is Deb Freeman.  I am the Differentiation Specialist at Seward.  I have been a teacher in the Minneapolis Schools for many years.  I have taught at Field, Wilder and Whittier schools before starting at Seward in the fall of 2019. I am very happy to call myself a Seward Shark! I attended the University of Colorado and the University of Minnesota.  My husband and I raised 2 children, a daughter who is an architect living and working in Los Angeles, and a son who is a Junior in college.  Currently we are raising an energetic  puppy who is very happy to have us home to cater to his every need.

Advanced Differentiation Levels of Service

"The greatest sign of success for a teacher... is to be able to say, 'The children are now working as if I did not exist.' " - Maria Montessori

In Minneapolis Public Schools, our vision is that all students recognize and develop their academic talents as a result of enrichment and appropriately challenging learning opportunities. We recognize that talent is developed through a process that begins with interests, building skills and providing learning matched to the increased intellectual demand necessary for advanced achievement. Our K-12 talent development model is structured to nurture academic talent in all children through a continuum of services.

Levels of Service is:

  • a school-wide model

  • a  commitment to deliberately developing talents in all students

  • a  system that evaluates and meets the needs of students with advanced learning needs, promotes and supports differentiated instruction for all students, and puts the focus on what students can do

  • a  process of organizing and harnessing community resources

  • a  challenge to incorporate creative thinking, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making on a daily basis (Treffinger et al., 200proven to be effective across the country in large, multicultural, urban school districts

  • Proven to be effective across the country in large, multicultural urban school districts
