The Green Committee seeks to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, staff and students to educate our school community about environmental issues, and increase awareness of and action around improved environmental  stewardship.

The Green Committee began meeting in the spring of 2007, and currently meets on a monthly basis in the Craft Room of Matthews Center at 6:30.  Upcoming meeting dates are:
  • December 17
  • January 21
  • February 18
  • March 18
  • April 15
To date, the committee has concentrated its efforts on clarifying and improving Seward Montessori's recycling program.  We have ensured that all classrooms have recycling bins and have helped educate teachers, students, and parents about our recycling contract with Allied Waste.  Click here to learn more about Seward's recycling program.  We have also begun the process of accessing PTSO fundraising practices with the goal of exploring and developing more environmentally sustainable fundraising efforts.  New initiatives for this school year include the ongoing Terracycle and Ecophones collection programs and the River Walk, planned for the spring of 2009.  You can find out more about these efforts by clicking on the side bar at the right.

We value your input and would love to have you join us.  Contact Emily Green at or Diane Forest at for more information or to share your ideas.
