Dear Seward Families:

On behalf of the Seward staff and faculty, I welcome you to the 2015-16 school year. I encourage you to become involved at Seward Montessori this year. Please communicate with your child’s teacher if you have questions, concerns or want to volunteer in the classroom. Join us at a Roundtable meeting. Roundtable is the Seward version of PTA and Site Council – one meeting a month. We discuss teaching and learning, school events and invite guest speakers. This year we are starting a Wellness committee. Please see our school calendar for meeting dates and times. The calendar can be found at http://seward.mpls.k12.mn.us/. I hope you will join us!

Our construction project will continue throughout the school year. Your child’s safety is a top priority and like last year, our School Safety and Emergency Team will continue to work with the construction superintendent to insure that our campus is safe. Our project manager, architect and contractors have been great to work with. I am grateful they have been responsive to our needs and good problem solvers. The project will be completed a year from now. I am asking that you be patient as we know there will be bumps in the road and specifically when dropping off and picking up your student.

The most important thing you can do is getting your child to school on time every day. I have heard parents comment that “nothing goes on at the beginning of the day.” Let me assure you nothing is further from the truth. The first 10-12 minutes of the day are critical for your child to get settled in for the day – socially as well as academically. Our classrooms have reading or work time upon arrival. Can you remember a time you were late for a meeting? You probably felt a little anxious or agitated about being late. Your child may feel the same way! Please get your student to school on time so your student has every opportunity to start the day with the rest of her/his classmates.

Dismissal: buses leave our building at 2:05 p.m. If you are picking up your student or he/she is walking home, please be aware all students should be out of the building by 2:10 p.m. We do not have staff to supervise students past 2:10 because we have our meetings after school and often times the construction workers need to know that students are off campus in order to proceed with their work. I am looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and growing as a community.

Sincerely,

Tammy
