Following six years of Montessori education - Children's House through 5th grade - our middle school builds on students' prior experiences and prepares them for continuing their education in high school.
Sixth grade students have four core classes: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies (Minnesota History) and Science. One period of the day contains a mixture of required classes depending on the needs of the student including: Reading Workshop, Real World Math, World Cultures, ELL classes, special education resource classes, and AVID 6. The last period of the day is when the students take their EXPLORE (elective) classes. All 6th grade students must take a quarter of Health 6. We do the best to accommodate all first and second choices.
Seventh and eighth grade students also have four core classes: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies (Global Studies), and Science. One period of the day contains a mixture of required classes depending on the needs of the student including: Reading Workshop, Spanish 1 or 2, ELL classes, special education resource classes, AVID 7, or AVID 8. The last period of the day is for EXPLORE (elective) classes. We do the best to accommodate all first and second choices of the students with eighth grade students having top priortiy for placement.
Students can log-in to the Student Portal to check their schedule, academic progress and more.

"What I Want for You"
A poem for the Seward 8th Grade Class of 2016, written by Sarah Rose
I want you to be BIG.
And I don’t mean wide or tall.
I mean I want you to be YOU above all.
Don’t be small in what you hope and dream.
I want you to scream your ambitions
like you scream for ice cream.
I want you to put your whole self in and
I don’t mean like the hokey pokey.
I mean taking risks that will make you a person worth knowing,
A person whose passion for life is constantly growing.
I want you to stand up and show what you know.
Be proud of your story and all of its glory.
I want you to own your mistakes and because of them to be more AWAKE and AWARE
Because everything that you face good or bad
Has a place in your tale,
The reason for which you will someday unveil
So, be who you are and be it LOUD.
You have already made us so proud.
