April 15, 2015
We are excited to announce that starting Wednesday, April 29th, once a week all children who ride the yellow school buses will experience the joys and reap the benefits of walking to school. We call this weekly, supervised walk to school Walking Wednesdays.
Every Wednesday, all the school buses will drop students on the 2600 block of 31st Avenue, where they will be met by Seward staff. Children will walk along the designated route to school, accompanied by staff, parent volunteers, and the school patrol.
Parents and children who do not take the school bus are encouraged to walk with us each week. If you drive, please park away from the drop off location, so you do not block the school buses.
We are participating in this Safe Routes to School program because research tells us that when children are physically active, they do better in school. Students who walk to school receive a concentration boost that lasts more than half the school day. They are also happier, more creative, and healthier too.
All students who ride the bus will be included in this program. There is nothing further you must do. Walking Wednesdays will continue every Wednesday through the end of the school year. If you have questions or do NOT want your student to participate in this activity, please contact Seward Montessori Transportation Coordinator Amanda Gay, 612-668-4950, firstname.lastname@example.org.
I believe your children will love walking to school on Walking Wednesdays with friends, classmates, staff and volunteers in this effort to increase student health, raise academic achievement, foster environmental consciousness, and strengthen our community.
Walking with you,
