Seward Families! Cold and flu season are among us. We, here in the health office, are working double time to help keep all of our students and staff as healthy as possible. There is currently a large outbreak of influenza in the state of Minnesota right now. Influenza can be very serious and lead to hospitalization.

Signs and symptoms of Influenza

People who have the flu often feel some or all of these signs and symptoms:

  • Fever or feeling feverish/chills (not everyone with flu will have a fever)
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (very tired)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

As a reminder, if your student has a fever of 100.0 or greater, they must stay home for 24 hours after student’s fever breaks without medication. If your student vomits and/or has diarrhea, they must stay home for 24 hours after student’s last episode of vomiting/diarrhea. When calling your child in ill to the attendance line, please let us know if your child is having influenza like symptoms.

Please encourage frequent, good hand washing to prevent the spread of infection, cover your cough completely, and consider getting your flu shot and stay home when you are ill.

Thank You,

Your Health office Team
