The MPS River Schools Collective Group
Friday, April 21, 2006 6:25 PM

River Schools Collective meets 2-4 times per year. The Collective is made up of parents of Dowling, Hiawatha/Howe, Longfellow, Sanford, Seward and Sullivan students. The first meeting was held on April 14, 2004. The Collective helped guide the School Board, as school closures moved forward on this side of town.

The purpose of the Collective is to foster communication between schools, develop an alliance for the benefit of public education, and address some of the dilemmas facing our school system and schools on this side of town. Two parents and one school staff person from each school have attended Collective meetings in the past.

This group is particularly important now, as the MN legislature considers the Davnie/Skoglund bill (which would change the election process of the Minneapolis School Board from an at-large system to a geographic district election system).
