Science at the middle school level at Seward follows a constructivist model that builds on students’ earlier Montessori experiences. Students participate in hands-on experiments and analyze their findings and experiences. This new information is then applied to the world around them to synthesize a whole view of their new learning. Our curriculum is made up of FOSS and STC middle school units that meet the state and national science standards. It is our belief that along with science content, science at Seward is an ideal way to teach critical thinking and support reading, math and writing skills, as well as prepare our students to become local and global citizens. I teach 7th and 8th grade science as well as a 6-8 elective.
